Gothic Rose Goldwork Embroidery Kit — The Sapphire & Amethyst Box

A cathedral treasury in your hands. Seven inches of pure goldwork geometry.

This is one of my absolute favorite kits I have ever designed — and it took me two weeks just to draft and perfect the design before I ever picked up a needle.

Inspired by Gothic architectural aesthetics and the breathtaking geometry of medieval stained glass windows, the Gothic Rose is built from concentric circles of interlocking petal shapes, couched in gold cording and accented with amethyst cabochons and pearls. The outer border is finished in a heavy braided gold trim that frames the whole piece like the lead came of a cathedral window.

I tried several types of goldwork cording before I found exactly the right combination that gives this design its depth and dimension. That geometry only works when the cording has weight and presence. When it came together it felt like something straight out of a cathedral treasury. 💜

This was my favorite kit of 2024. It still is.

🦚 Peacock Green — My specially commissioned color shifting peacock green dupioni silk — you provide your own gems and make her entirely your own

This design is incredibly versatile. Use it as:

TECHNICAL NOTES

• Finished size: 7 inches and 3.5 inches tall
• Please back your fabric with buckram before beginning embroidery — this is essential for the structure and longevity of the finished piece
• Intermediate level — some prior goldwork or couching experience recommended
• Full instructions included

• Gold cording in multiple weights — carefully selected for this design specifically
• lots of 2mm yellow gold spiral French wire

• Step by step illustrated instructions

Gems not included in Peacock Green version. Embroidery hoop and buckram not included.

A NOTE FROM ME

The geometry of this design only reveals itself as you stitch it. Each layer you add makes the whole thing suddenly make sense in a new way — like watching a rose window come into focus as you step back from the glass. I think you are going to love making this one. 💜🪡✨
